We have compiled all public comments from the Public Hearing for the first project of the Program, the reconstruction between Interchanges 14 and 14A into a report.
The hearing provided an opportunity for attendees to submit oral and written comments or questions for the record. Comments were collected from June 18 through July 3, 2025, and are documented in this report. Thank you to everyone who shared feedback.
Nearly 100 small businesses attended the Small Business Opportunities Information Session hosted by the Turnpike Authority in partnership with Newark City Council President Larry Crump. The session featured a presentation on how small business owners can obtain an SBE certification, meet contracting requirements, and access opportunities with the first project of the Newark Bay–Hudson County Extension Improvements Program.

An economic analysis found that the first project alone will generate $2.8 billion in economic activity and create over 25,000 jobs, many offering prevailing wage and benefits, totaling $2 billion in earned income. Beyond direct impacts, the project is expected to support local industries, reduce travel congestion, and enhance regional connectivity, helping businesses move goods more efficiently and commuters save time.

The Public Hearing offered an opportunity to provide both oral and written comments or questions on the record. The public comment period for the Public Hearing closed July 3rd, 2025.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority held a Public Hearing for the first project of the Program, the reconstruction between Interchanges 14 and 14A. The Public Hearing took place on Wednesday, June 18th, at 6:00 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson School #10 in Bayonne.
The Public Hearing included remarks from Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, a presentation, and a formal public comment period where members of the community could provide oral or written comments or questions on the record. There were also opportunities for attendees to speak one-on-one with Turnpike Authority officials and members of the Program team.
Join the New Jersey Turnpike Authority for an in-person Public Hearing for the first project of the Program, the reconstruction between Interchanges 14 and 14A. The Public Hearing will take place on Wednesday, June 18th, at 6:00 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson School #10 located at 101 W. 56th Street, Bayonne. There will be a presentation at 6:30 p.m. Walk-ins are permitted, however, pre-registration is encouraged.
The Public Hearing offers an opportunity to provide both oral and written comments. Those who are unable to attend in person have the option of joining virtually. On May 7, 2025, after 4 years of environmental analysis, the Coast Guard issued a Finding of No Significant Impact for the first project of the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program, the reconstruction between Interchanges 14 and 14A. A recent poll conducted by Fairleigh Dickinson University, sponsored by the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey, shows strong bipartisan support for the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program. The survey found that 58 percent of New Jersey voters back the project, citing the need to address increased traffic jams. Anthony Russo, President of the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey, emphasized the importance of updating infrastructure to accommodate significant increases in shipping.
