The New Jersey Turnpike Authority held the third in-person Public Information Center (PIC) for the first project of the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program. The PIC took place in Jersey City on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center. The event followed the format of an open house and included a presentation and opportunities for residents to ask questions and speak one-on-one with Turnpike Authority officials and members of the Program team. There were information stations around the room so that residents could learn more about the first project, the reconstruction between Interchanges 14 and 14A, and its benefits and opportunities.

Join the New Jersey Turnpike Authority for an in-person Public Information Center (PIC) for the first project of the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program. The PIC will take place on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center, 140 Martin Luther King Dr., Jersey City, NJ. There will be a presentation at 7:00 p.m. Walk-ins are permitted, however, pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Limited public parking is available in the Center lot.

PICs are different from official public hearings, which include a formal public comment portion. Instead, they provide an open house format to encourage greater engagement, dialogue, and interactivity. They include a brief presentation and opportunities for community residents to directly ask questions, comment, and speak one-on-one with Turnpike Authority officials and members of the Program team.

The US Coast Guard has extended the public comment period for the draft NEPA EA for the first project, the reconstruction between Interchanges 14 and 14A. Members of the public will have until Saturday, July 13th, to submit comments to the US Coast Guard. Although the draft NEPA EA and public comment process are governed by the US Coast Guard, the Turnpike Authority encourages members of the public to review the draft NEPA EA and provide comments. The draft NEPA EA is available on the Environmental Responsibility page of this website and print copies can be found at libraries in Bayonne, Jersey City, and Newark. The library locations can also be found on the Environmental Responsibility page.

The Public Information Center took place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in the Woodrow Wilson School #10 gymnasium from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The event followed the format of an open house and included remarks by City of Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis and Assemblyman William Sampson IV, a presentation, and opportunities for residents to ask questions and speak one-on-one with Turnpike Authority officials and members of the Program team. There were information stations around the room so that residents could learn more about the first project, the reconstruction between Interchanges 14 and 14A, and its benefits and opportunities.

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis recently published an op-ed in the Jersey Journal reaffirming his support for the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program. In the op-ed he explains why the Extension bridges, particularly the Newark Bay Bridge, must be replaced. He also outlined how the Program, and especially the first project, will benefit Bayonne and New Jersey.

The NEPA EA confirms the findings of the NJ Executive Order 215 Environmental Impact Statement. The first project will relieve congestion between Interchanges 14 and 14A and maintain or improve community and environmental quality.
